Karen Donleavy cat pottery
Born in London, raised on the Isle of Man, Karen lived in Ireland
before traveling to Los Angeles in 1979 to produce her whimsical,
highly decorative animal designs in high-fired porcelain. She studied
with world-renowned potters David Leach, Michael Cassson, and
Walter Keeiler in England,and she tried working in other media...
etchings and drawings...but she always returned to her first love,
ceramics, to express her fondness for animals. Diverse personalities
such as Julie Andrews, Lauren Bacall, Luciano Pavarotti, Anthony
Perkins, Tracey Ullman, E. L. Doctorow, and Robert are collectors
of Karen's pieces. Her charming animals can be found in distinctive
stores and galleries from coast to coast. Her work was an instant
sell-out at the Anna Mei Chadwick Gallery in London, in which her
pottery was presented in a joint exhibition with the drawings of her
father....noted Irish author and playwright J.P. Donleavy.
In 1998 Karen moved her studio to Idaho.
