Weir Handmade carved animals ...are designed and handcrafted by 150 or so carvers in the mountains of the Philippines. They select one tree at a time... cutting, carving, and hand carrying the wood out of the forest. Classic tools are used for carving...mallets, chisels, knives, draw blades...and the finished carvings are dried in a hot box, heated by the sun, for three to twelve months before they are painted and finished. No two pieces are alike...each piece has its own personality (and blemishes). Weir works directly with the craftspeople who live in the mountains of north central Luzon...and who have an urgent need for a source of income to feed and house their families. No agents or middleman are used...allowing more money to go directly where it is most needed.
